Rug Care Guide
How to Care for Your Moroccan Rug
A well-made Berber rug will last generations. These simple steps will keep yours looking its best.
Daily Care
Vacuum weekly on a low suction setting. Always use the suction-only mode — never a beater bar on wool fibres. Rotate the rug 180° every six months so it wears evenly.
Spills and Stains
Act immediately. Blot — never rub — with a clean white cloth and cold water. Work from the outside of the stain inward. For stubborn marks, use a small amount of mild wool-safe soap diluted in cold water. Rinse thoroughly and blot dry. Never use bleach, hot water, or harsh chemicals.
Deep Cleaning
Have the rug professionally cleaned every 12–18 months. Do not machine wash or steam clean a hand-knotted wool rug.
Sunlight
Natural dyes will mellow beautifully over many years. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight to preserve the original palette as long as possible.
Storage
If storing, roll the rug — never fold it. Wrap in breathable cotton or acid-free paper and store in a cool, dry place. Never store in plastic sheeting.
Rug Pad
We recommend a non-slip natural rubber pad beneath your rug. It protects the floor, prevents movement, and adds cushioning underfoot.
